A voice for the abused & neglected children of Jefferson County, Indiana.
CASA of Jefferson County is a nonprofit organization that recruits,
educates, and supports CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)
volunteers who advocate in the best interest of children who fall victim
to neglect and abuse. Located in southern Indiana, the organization
serves children throughout all of Jefferson County, with its office
located in downtown Madison, Indiana. CASA of Jefferson County is a
member of the National CASA Association and the Indiana GAL/CASA network
and adheres to their standards, requirements, and policies.
Each year, in our county alone, nearly 200 abused and/or neglected children
face the future without a home to call their own. These children are
often placed in some form of foster care, whether it is with a foster
family or a group home placement. However, many of these children, who
have been proven to be abused and/or neglected, are left in their homes
where the abuse occurred. These children have done nothing wrong but
are simply victims of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. As reports of
abuse and neglect crowd court dockets, more and more children are thrust
into the confusing maze of the system. In the state of Indiana, the
statistics show that incidents of child abuse have increased
consistently each year for the past 3 years.
CASA of Jefferson County is helping to make a difference through the
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/Guardian ad Litem (GAL)
volunteer program. These volunteers are recruited and trained to
advocate for the best interest of children both inside and outside of
the courtroom. They work with attorneys, mental health professionals,
and service providers to meet the needs of these children and help them
find safe, permanent homes.
Donations received are used to recruit, train, and support volunteers who advocate for our local abused and neglected children of Jefferson County, Indiana.
